7 Ways to Feng Shui Your Home

Whether you are just moving into a new space, or are considering listing your home for sale, a few simple changes in the environment can make all the difference.  As your Toronto real estate specialists, we can assure you presenting your home in the best possible light aids in selling it quickly.

Feng Shui is an ancient practice of arranging your space, with the belief that object maintenance and placement impacts energy flow.  Below are a few easy things you can do to improve energy flow in your home.

1. Clear the Clutter

Clutter sucks the energy out of a room.  It also encourages stagnant energy.  Take some time to get organized.  If you are a clutter bug, this may seem overwhelming.  Don’t assign yourself the task of doing it all at once.  Set a timer for 15 minutes a day, and work to remove clutter from your home a bit at a time.  Particularly if you are planning to list your home for sale, getting rid of clutter is critical.  Toronto real estate sells better when decluttered.

2. Clean Your Windows

In Feng Shui, windows represent your vision of the world.  Maintaining clean, clear windows is thought to physically and metaphorically provide a clear view of the world.

3. Use Mirrors

As your Toronto real estate specialists, we can tell you mirrors make rooms appear larger than they are.  They also, however, are thought to recirculate energy.  Consider carefully what is in front of a mirror.  In Feng Shui, it is thought mirrors draw energy and attention from what they are reflecting.  Consequently, it is a good idea to take the time to select something that brings you joy to put in front of the mirror.

4. Fill Each Room with Joy

Feng Shui focuses on energy.  Make sure each room contains some object or art that brings you joy.  The idea is, when you walk into each room, you will see your object of joy, and that energy will infuse the space.

5. Incorporate a Water Element

Water is a symbol of wealth and prosperity in Feng Shui.  Your home should contain a water element, such as a fountain or an aquarium.  In Feng Shui, your water element should be located just inside or just outside your home’s entryway.  The water should flow towards the center of the home.  It represents the flow of wealth.  Given the onset of winter, consider an indoor water element in your Toronto real estate.

6. Use Color!

In Feng Shui, red is considered a color that attracts energy, luck, and good fortune.  Put a red plant outside your door, or add some red accent colors near your front door for positive energy.

7. Embrace Nature

Nature creates a sense of calm and peace and reduces anxiety and anger.  Take advantage of natural light.  Keep the windows open to allow fresh air when weather permits, maintain houseplants and decorate with bamboo, wood, and stone.
